Market Making/●●●●●

Your bid just got hit, which way do you re-quote?

Asked at Optiver, IMC

You are making a market in an interview game on some unknown quantity. You quote 4848 bid, at 5252. The interviewer hits your bid (sells to you at 4848), then asks: "Make me a new market."

Should your new quotes differ from 48 at 52? Why? Give two independent reasons.

Show a hint

One reason is about what the trade tells you. The other is about what the trade did to you. They happen to point the same way here.

Your answer

This one is open-ended. Work it through, then check your reasoning against the full solution.
